Books

From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it.

Travel

No Shitting in the Toilet Front Cover (4330 bytes) No Shitting In The Toilet, Peter Moore, Bantam Books, Sydney, 2001.
  • as the subtitle says, "The Travel Guide For When You've Really Lost It"
  • a very funny book about some of the more unusual things that can happen while you're travelling
  • the section about the errors in some of the Lonely Planet guides is especially funny
In A Sunburned Country Front Cover (4836 bytes) In a Sunburned Country, Bill Bryson, Doubleday Canada, Toronto, 2000.
  • a collection of very funny tales from several of Bill Bryson's trips to Australia
  • but if you've ever been to Australia then you'll have no problems relating to his stories
  • and here's a quote from the story about Keith Anderson and Bob Hitchcock who in 1929 were out searching for the missing Australian aviator Charles Kingsford Smith when their own plane crashed in the Australian outback:
  • "They were dead by the third day. That is how unimaginably murderous the outback is. I don't wish to seem obsessive about this, but they drank their own urine too. Nearly everybody does who gets stuck in the outback."

  • doesn't that make you just want to hop on the next flight to Australia?!?!
  • and I definitely won't complain about the airline food ever again!
Kiwi Tracks Front Cover (6052 bytes) Kiwi Tracks, Andrew Stevenson, Lonely Planet Publications, Melbourne, 1999.
  • a book that I could've written ...
  • the story of a man who spent four months hiking around New Zealand and ends up learning much about himself, fellow travellers, and New Zealand politics, culture, and history
  • parts of the story are quite funny while others are quite sad but that's life
Lonely Planet Unpacked Front Cover (2973 bytes) Lonely Planet Unpacked, Various, Lonely Planet Publications, Melbourne, 1999.
  • all the stories you never get to see on the Travel Channel
  • some very funny and some very sad stories
  • a good read for anyone who likes travelling
  • an even better read for those who've also survived "trips to Hell and back"
